New Football Website

I want to introduce everyone to a new website that we will be using for the 2011 football season. The website is through our video editing software APEX. As you look through the website you will be able to see all the new ways that this website can be used. I will be able to post film right on the website for easy access for our players and also for college recruiters. As the season gets closer the website will be updated more often. Follow this link to get to the new Joliet West Football APEX Locker room website.

Mrs. Aubry

I wanted to make sure I put out a huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Aubry for all she has done for the team this year. Mrs. Aubry has done so much for our team starting in the summer when we transformed our locker room into the greatest locker room in the state. She painted, cleaned, and made sure everything was perfect before our guys saw the locker room the first time early in the summer. She was then our trainer, camera person, and videographer for our Lorado Taft football camp. She spends hours putting together our highlight films for the camp and the season. Then when the season does get here she is the one who makes the contacts to get the Saturday morning breakfasts together and the Friday game day snack sacks. She also organizes meals for the coaches when we are spending our late night Mondays prepping for the next week’s opponent. She does all this with two young kids in elementary school and one freshman who is on the Varsity cheer squad here at West. Picking up and dropping off the kids while her husband is not around for apparent reasons. For all this, the coaches, the players, and I would like to say, once again, a HUGE THANK YOU to Mrs. Aubry.

Texas Roadhouse Extra Effort Award Part II

The boys had a great time at Texas Roadhouse last night smashin' some great food. Once again we would like to thank Mark Ittersagen who set this up for our team and also Texas Roadhouse who fed our guys. These four guys went the extra step this past season and made things happen not only on the game field, but also on the practice field. Thanks again guys! Until next year, GO TIGERS!

HF Game

Week 9 was a very interesting week for the guys. We had a good week of practice and I think the guys really enjoyed their last week of the season. We asked the guys to FINISH the season with a Bang and they really did. I wish we would have started the game how we finished. The boys played their hearts out! And they did FINISH with a bang! I do not think anybody saw this type of game coming. I am very proud of the boys and am very grateful for the hard work that they put into this season.

I would like to also say a huge thank you to all the parents who helped with the snack sacks and Saturday morning breakfasts. The boys and coaches really appreciated all the hard work you put into this season.

Senior Day

I cannot believe it, but it is that time again when we get to celebrate the Senior Football Players in our football program. This Saturday will be our last home football game so not only will we be honoring our Seniors, but we will also honor our Senior's parents. A letter went home with the Seniors yesterday with all the information about the game. If you did not see this letter please contact me so I am able to give you the information needed. This is a very special day, I hope to see everyone out to cheer on the Tigers one last time for 2010!

Every Day Every Play

We found out what happens when we have a distracted week of practice. We are a team right now that needs to practice well during the week to win on the weekends. I was talking with Brandon Allen after his game on Saturday night (Brandon is one of my former players who is playing for the #1 ranked team in the nation in Division II Grand Valley State University). I told him about how our week of practice was and how we played, his comment after that was priceless... "You win games during the week." The kids have been challenged this past Saturday. Every day, every play! Let's finish this season with a BANG!

West Loyalty

Another Win For West!

Two weeks, two victories! We are very excited about how well our kids played this week. This is what we have envisioned for our West Football Program for a while. The game was highlighted by a HUGE goal line stand, when Lincoln Way Central had the ball first and goal from the 6 inch line. Our defense stopped the Knights 4 times from that 6 inch line and gave the ball back to our offense. Going into double overtime and getting the victory has really given our kids some huge confidence going into our Friday night game this week vs. Lockport.

West Victory!

Although this was not our best played game of the year, we will take this victory anyday. The West/Central rivalry has been reborn and we are very excited that we were able to start the rivalry with this victory! As I told the guys though, if we do not come out this week and have a great week of practice and get the victory on Friday night the win against Joliet Central does not mean that much. If you can, encourage the guys to come out and work hard and have a great week of practice! Since the game is on Friday night we will have our normal late night practice on Thursday night. Here is the practice schedule for this week. GO TIGERS!

Homecoming Game

We, as a coaching staff, asked our kids to compete for 4 quarters this week and I think we did. However, as the kids know, we made too many mistakes to come out on top this week. As I told the guys, I was happy that we competed against one of the top programs in the state for 4 quarters, but we are not satisfied with how we finished the game. This week, we compete and finish!

Homecoming Week 2010

As I shared with the team this past week, we played well for a short amount of time this past Friday night vs. Sandburg. However, if we want to put ourselves in a position to win in the 4th quarter we have to play well all 48 minutes of the game. So, with that being said, we have decided as a team that we are going to make that our goal for this upcoming game vs. Bolingbrook. We will compete all 4 quarters of the game and if we do that we should be in a position to walk off the field with a victory. Looking forward to seeing all the Tiger alumni back for the first Homecoming game in many years.

Go Tigers!

Team Breakfasts and Sack Snacks

Parents/Guardians of Varsity Football Tigers,

Continuing with our tradition from last year, we will be providing the team with breakfasts the mornings of Saturday games and snack bags the evenings of Friday night games. The breakfasts include egg dishes or sausage links/patties, baked goods (muffins, doughnuts), fruit, string cheese, yogurt, and drinks (water and/or juice). The snack bags include bottled water, string cheese, bagged pretzels, fruit, and other snacks such as granola or nutrigrain bars. We will be feeding approximately 55 players each Saturday at 10:30 AM in the cafeteria at Joliet West. We will pack the snack bags for Friday night games on Thursday evenings or Friday afternoons, depending on availability of help. If you are not able to provide food or drinks for the team, your help serving is always greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your support of our Tigers! If you are willing to provide food, drink, or help serve, please contact Coach Aubry and let him know the best way for me to contact you.

Thanks and Go Tigers!
Dana Aubry

Day 3 of Lorado Taft, continued

After a very long, physically and mentally challenging day, the team is in its third and final film session. It was a day of hard work. It was a day of physical exhaustion. Of 3 long practices under the hot sun. Of mental and physical endurance. A day of pushing through. A day of giving everything on the field and leaving it all there. And, it's not over yet.

Before it's over, we still have The Bonfire.

~What's Important Now~

Day 3 of Lorado Taft

Day 3 of camp is well underway.

The boys began their day with a run, some sprints, and a sandbag drill. After fueling up with a good breakfast, they started and finished their morning practice under the hot sun. That was followed by lunch and film review from the first practice of the day. The second practice will begin in less than an hour. The boys are staying healthy and drinking plenty of fluids.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Day 2

Day 2 of Lorado Taft was a full one.

Morning practice, afternoon competition time, and an evening Coaches vs. Players 7 on 7.

We are resting up for tomorrow, the toughest day of camp.

~What's Important Now~

Lorado Taft Day1

Day 1 included checking in, the running test, a 7 on 7 vs. Dekalb High School, linemen drills, dinner, and meeting time.
